The GWSI Glass Filter Funnel Short Stem pairs a precise 60° cone with a stubby, wide-bore stem for fast, splash-free transfers. Made from premium borosilicate 3.3 glass, it shrugs off hot liquids and corrosive reagents thanks to high thermal shock resistance and top-tier hydrolytic resistance. Full chemical inertness means zero contamination of your filtrate, and its fully autoclavable lab glass for clean, repeatable work. Like every GWSI piece, it shares the build standard of our Class A and Class B volumetric glassware.
HISTORY :
The plain glass funnel dates back to early 19th-century chemistry, but it took the rise of borosilicate glass — the Jena and Pyrex-era heat-shock breakthrough — to make it safe for hot work. The short stem solved a practical problem: tight fume hoods and low benchtop rigs where a long stem broke easily and slowed the flow. A squat stem gives a faster pour, a smaller footprint, and far fewer snapped tips.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS :
GWSI melts high-purity borosilicate 3.3 tubing, shapes each funnel by master hand-blowing or automated molding, fire-polishes the stem rim, and then anneals every piece in a controlled lehr to relieve all thermal stress.
TESTING PROCESS :
Each funnel is hand-checked first, then passed through a polariscope polarization stress test for zero residual stress, verified against ISO/DIN tolerances on manual or automatic testing machines, and NABL gravimetric calibration is applied to volumetric items.
PRINTING PROCESS :
Markings are applied by precision silk-screening with glass enamels (ceramic inks) and baked in high-temperature kilns to permanently fuse the scale into the glass matrix, so it never fades.
PACKAGING PROCESS :
Finished funnels go through cosmetic sorting to filter out blemishes, then ship in heavy-duty double-wall boxes with shock-absorbing bubble wrap for safe export.
MAINTENANCE & SAFETY :
– Wash with warm water and mild detergent; use a stem brush for the bore, rinse with distilled water.
– Autoclave at 121 °C and allow gradual cooling — no sudden temperature swings.
– Don’t let hot alkali or hydrofluoric acid sit on the glass; they attack it.
– Store upright on a rack or in a padded drawer so stems stay chip-free.
